Learning Outcome #2
"Acquire skills in logic, reasoning, argumentation and critical thinking."
This outcome focuses on honing the ability to analyze information, evaluate arguments, and develop well-founded viewpoints. Through acquiring these skills, Emerson students excel at discerning logic, assessing evidence, and making informed decisions. These capabilities empower Emersonians to engage in meaningful discourse, tackle complex problems, and navigate diverse situations effectively.
In my "Argumentation and Advocacy" course, we explored how advocating for causes can drive positive change. As a lifelong dancer, I am deeply passionate about addressing stereotypes in the dance industry, particularly within ballet. Leveraging the lessons from this course, I crafted a persuasive letter urging ballet directors to challenge traditional stereotypes and embrace diversity in casting and recruitment practices. This project aligns with the learning outcome by showcasing how I applied newfound skills in logic and argumentation to advocate for meaningful change.
